Go and Tell

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..."

The words above are not unfamiliar to Christians. They are a familiar phrase from what we commonly refer to as "the Great Commission." According to Matthew's Gospel, these were the final words Jesus spoke to His disciples. Yet we at Grace very much believe these words are binding on us as well.

Grace is committed to supporting the work of missions in the Arnold community and throughout the world. We understand evangelism to be primary to God's intentions for us. This means we ourselves are called to share the Gospel, and we should support others who are doing so through prayer, finances, and other forms of service.

Because we believe that we can do more together than we can separately, Grace supports evangelistic/missionary efforts through three primary agencies: Free Will Baptist International MissionsFree Will Baptist North American Ministries and Show-Me Missions. These serve as platforms for and provide support to those going into Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth.

Despite our desire to be faithful witnesses to the Gospel, we understand that the Great Commission also includes a call to "teach them to observe all that I have commanded you." This means that while Great Commission work sees evangelism as primary, it also includes a call to establish healthy, disciple-making churches. Because those who become disciples of Christ grow to share His compassion, mercy, and love for people, this by extension includes efforts to alleviate some of the suffering that is happening in our community and the world. Thus, we are involved in efforts to provide food to our local food pantry, and to assist other families in the community with physical needs.

Yet we always remember that our benevolence is grounded in the character of God. This means that we seek to demonstrate to all we serve that being reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ is our chief aim.

Finally, the most consistent and important way that we support missionary efforts in our community and beyond is by emphasizing a particular "Mission of the Month." Whether it be a missionary family in Africa, an outreach event at our church, or a number of other efforts designed to promote the Gospel, we make these a special focus of our church's prayer life each month.
